Research Project Manager

THE ROLE
We are looking for a dynamic Research Project Manager to join our Research and Innovation team. This role is essential for managing our EV charging related publicly funded research projects and ensuring the company’s ability to absorb and implement innovations from research projects effectively. The Project Manager will manage Kempower's involvement in complex, multi-partner international projects and act as a bridge between internal teams and external research partners.
ROLE SPECIFICS:
- Project Management: Manage Kempower’s involvement in publicly funded R&D projects, including EU Horizon Europe, Chips Joint Undertaking (JU), and Business Finland Co-Innovation projects.
- Consortium Collaboration: Work closely with international research partners in multi-organization consortium projects, ensuring alignment with Kempower’s objectives and fostering effective collaboration across stakeholders.
- Project Deliverables: Take responsibility for fulfilling project deliverables and achieving defined objectives.
- Internal Resource Management: Guide and coordinate internal resources from various departments (beyond the Research function) to ensure effective contribution to project goals.
- Innovation Absorption: Actively communicate and facilitate the integration of project deliverables, innovation outcomes, and consortium insights into Kempower’s research team and other internal functions to enable innovation actions.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure full compliance with funding agency requirements, including timely reporting, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Proposal Development: Support the preparation of competitive funding proposals and detailed project plans.
- Risk & Budget Management: Monitor project risks, budgets, and timelines, ensuring proactive mitigation and optimal resource utilization.
- Project Management Development: Continuously develop research project management methods to maximize innovation absorption across the organization.
At Kempower, we work in a hybrid model. You can be based in Lahti, Lappeenranta, Helsinki, or Tampere, but we expect a readiness to travel as part of the role.
We have research offices in Lahti and in Lappeenranta where our newly opened research office right at the heart of LUT university Lappeenranta campus. Both of these offices allows us to work closely with LUT's researchers and students.

WHAT HELPS YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE
- Experience in publicly funded research projects, especially within EU and Finnish funding frameworks.
- Degree in engineering, science, or a related field (e.g., electronics, embedded or cloud software, energy, mechanics, automation, thermodynamics, business, etc.).
- Understanding of Horizon Europe, Chips Joint Undertaking (JU), and Business Finland Co-Innovation programs.
- Experience in Industrial Research and Development (R&D).
- Ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with external research partners.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
As our official company language is English, proficiency in spoken and written English is required; Finnish language skills are considered an asset.
